Abstract

The passive fit between superstructure and implant constructed by accurate impression is one of the important factors for maintaining osseointegration of implants. The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of the accuracy between direct method using squared impression coping and indirect method using tapered impression coping and that which method will be more useful in the clinics. The results were as follows. 1. None of the impression methods resulted in an absolutely passive fit. 2. The case of group 2 (squared impression coping + Impregum) demonstrated the closest mean strain values recorded on the master cast. 3. No statistically significant difference was found between direct and indirect method. 4. The group using polyether impression material resulted in closer duplication of the mastet cast than using alginate and the group using alginate with a large standard deviation is considered an unstable method (p<0.05). 5. In case of group 2, the force of about 40 N showed to be inflicted on implant and further research about the effect of constant force of the magnitude found in this study is needed.
